My 30-Day Challenge: Drink more water & No SSB (Sugar Sweetened Beverages)
Goal: Gain what I lose, stay hydrated and MAKE IT A HABIT!
Not allowed to drink anything that has added sugar. Water, milk, unsweetened tea, 100% juice/ homemade juice, unsweetened coffee are all allowed. |
I've done this challenge before but now I will be adding more rules to it. I'll log when I drink and what I drink, pros and cons of this challenge. I want to have a healthier, balanced fluid intake than I do right now.
|
10 cups a day, 12 oz., mostly water, tea, or juice. 8 am, 9 am, 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm, 9 pm, 10 pm
Progress: ?
I'm not going to lie, I've been having trouble staying on track. I haven't drank any sweetened drinks but what i'm having trouble with is drinking water consistently. For example, I'd drink more water on the weekends compared to weekdays with classes and water dispensers that are not near the area.

Post Super Typhoon Yutu
After Typhoon Yutu, it wasn't a problem for me to stop drinking anything sweet because of availability. My progress has been going better than before Yutu actually. I've had more time to drink because of working outside clearing debris.

Apps
Since I was doing a water challenge, I wanted a reminder because I'd forget so i downloaded an app called DailyWaterReminder. I ended up not using it but I had an internal reminder. It's a great app if you're looking to get into the daily habit. You plug in information like when you wake up/ when you sleep and other questions so it customizes to your needs. It'll show this bottle and the top line (20) says how much water is in the bottle and when you drink water in real life, you use the bottom line to end and click "Drink Water" and the 20 line will go down to however much you drank. It also tracks your history for the day so you can see how much you drank.

Since I didn't use this amazing app (because I was never consistent, even if I tried) I had my internal alarm. Other than drinking whenever I got thirsty, I'd had set times for when to drink water. School has also helped me drink more water because being nervous and having a dry mouth before a presentation would encourage me to drink more water as well. It's been hard with overlapping classes though. I always have to use the restroom during my first class out of 3.
I would have cravings for something sweet about 3-5 out of 7 days a week. I would mostly see people drinking them so I'd want the same thing but for the most part, I'd drink the water in my Hydro. As for "gaining what I lose", I usually sweat a lot throughout the day so I just drank before or during class to balance the loss.

In the end, I'm happy to say that it has become a habit of mine to drink more water everyday. Before the challenge, I'd drink about 3-4 cups everyday and now that I've been drinking the least of 8 cups. My skin hasn't changed much since post Yutu but my attitude to strive for a healthier life is definitely changing.
