Reflection Paper
“How has the social structure of the CNMI affected its government and the community as a whole?” This would be a good topic to talk about because there has been a lot of controversy on these issues, not just in the CNMI, but you can find problems like this at different countries in this world and is no stranger to society nowadays. Nepotism, policing, and crimes would be great categories to look at this certain issue. It may not be statistically proven, but they are for sure to be eye brow raising reasons that could be looked at and tested. This topic would be something interesting to do some research on because it is something that people see and chat about, but no one is taking action upon it. The research on this would probably aid the people of the CNMI in a way or at least open the eyes of government officials/authorities and help them change for the betterment of the community and its people who resides on it.
As we all should know, writing a research papers takes a lot of time. It takes a lot of writing, revising, patience, and research. All this could be very stressful and overwhelming, but that is all normal whenever it comes to writing a research paper. Collecting raw data through surveys, interviews, questionnaires’, and letters to experts are used to help show the results to support the topic of your search. While literature reviews are studies that have already been published and that other writers use it to help support their search. So basically it is like a backup. With that being said all those methods fall under ethnographic research. Ethnographic research is where information is collected in a variety of ways. It was chosen for this search because due to how private this topic is, getting genuine information is the main objective that needs to be achieved, and not to be seen in a negative or biased way where false information may be given out instead. With that being said, it is safe to say that ethnographic research would be perfect for this type of inquiry. Anyways, as for me I felt that I had a hard time with finding the literature review. As it was mentioned a couple of times, due to how sensitive this topic is, people barley talk about it. With that being said, it means that there are barely academic studies on it. Yes I would find some studies on it, but most of them are non-academic instead of academic. There would be academic studies but they are not the type of studies that I am looking for my type of research. But on the other hand, at least I was able to find some that are closely related to my topic. So I was happy about that. Personally, I was not really satisfied with my results and data for my research. I felt like I could have done more. But I know I did my best and that is what matters the most.
I felt that working with this specific topic was actually harder than I expected. I say it is hard because of how it is something that is very sensitive to talk about without having other people look at you in a negative way or be seen biased. But on the other hand, I do believe that it was such an interesting topic to talk about. It is interesting because who would not want to know the truth behind this topic? Especially it being something nobody ever talks about because they fear criticism and all the looks of negativity that comes with it. If I had a chance to change my topic, I probably would have. The reason for me saying this is because it is very hard to believe other people’s opinion about this issue. You would not know who’s right or wrong. It could go either way. And to add on to that, getting literature reviews or studies on this issue is very minimal due to how complex the topic is and the fact that no one really talks about it. Other than that, I was really happy that I got the opportunity to do my research on this topic. It was very challenging and very frustrating to do. I had my ups and downs but I eventually got through it by just simply following methodology and keeping I updated with the research paper so that I do not fall behind. It was such an amazing experience and it would be something that I would never forget.
