My Personal Goal
My personal goals are to be more vocal, effective, and less nervous when I deliver speeches. Firstly, being vocal is important in terms of talking to people (or the audience) in general; I want to be heard. Secondly, being effective seems important to me when it comes to delivering speeches because I want to connect with my audience. Lastly, I want to not have stage fright when I deliver speeches.

Reflection of My Self-Introduction Speech Video
After re-watching my self-introduction speech video, I felt like I could have improved on my volume and organizing my speech. Since I know myself very well, I do feel like my volume when it comes to speaking is generally low. I also felt like organizing my speech and practicing more could have helped me not seem nervous and repeat words. Another thing that I did notice was that I did body movements. Lastly, I wanted to point out that my cat's reason for being in the video was to signify one of the biggest things about me (I am an animal-lover).
Community Issues Speech/Favorite Speech!
Hi classmates! This is my "Community Issues Speech" as well as my "Favorite Speech" from this course. I've chosen this to be my favorite because I feel that this was an important speech and I feel like we all chose our own topics out of passion. I'd also like to add that I think it is important to always talk about issues in the community, because we cannot solve problems without speaking (using our voices) to let the problem be known. I genuinely spoke from the heart when it came to this speech; which is why it is my favorite! Lastly, I am passionate about this topic because I do wish that everyone else in the community could acknowledge it, instead of waiting until the issue becomes bigger.
Short Reflection: Have I achieved my goals in class? What will I do to develop my skills?
|
As I reflect about how I did in this class, the first thing that comes into my mind is "Shyness". I've noticed that my shyness personality has disappeared, because I've grown to be more comfortable with everyone in class! Personally, I think in order to break the ice of being shy, you need to be comfortable with the people around you, especially if you are going to be with them for a whole semester! My (our) time was cut short in being in a face-to-face classroom due to COVID-19, but I do believe that I was still given many chances to bond with my classmates.
Onto goals - I feel as if I achieved some of my goals, such as: organizing my speech, volume (sometimes), and practicing to almost make my speeches perfect. Given that our face-to-face opportunity was cut short, I feel like I could have achieved ALL my goals if we were in a physical setting. Honestly, I feel super shy when I'm practicing in front of my family, because I feel that it is awkward. I'd rather practice with my peers. However, I've worked with what I have. I was able to practice organizing my speech better by using a specific format, practice/record alone to practice volume and perfection. I do feel like the one thing that I have a habit of doing is repeating words when I become nervous/space out. Moreover, I tend to repeat words when I am trying to be humorous (yet it doesn't work sometimes). Lastly, I do feel that this class has helped me come out of my shell. I was already an open person to begin with before I enrolled in this class, but it helped me enhance my open personality. I did not have many skills to begin with, but this class has helped me gain skills in becoming more open. I'd also like to add that I feel less stage fright! Since I am too shy to practice future made-up speeches with my family, I honestly just plan on watching more Ted-Talk videos because they've inspired me a lot! Since I gain inspiration from those videos, I plan on using their tactics when it comes to speaking to people in my life on the daily. Which means, when I want to have conversation, I will use humor and won't keep the conversation going on for too long (unless it is interesting). I will also try and continue to be "Open, Authentic, and Transparent". |
