My Favorite Speech: Community Issues Speech
My favorite speech that I recited in class was my Community Issues Speech (CIS). The CIS speech is my favorite because it gave me the chance to represent myself a bit more professionally. I was able to explain to my audience what was causing obesity on our island and what we can do to help stop this. Sharing the information that I found and created to my classmates ,instructor, and outside guests made me feel proud because it felt like what I said was important as people who were professionals in their own field listened and considered my ideas. Out of all the speeches I recited in class, I was more relaxed and calm and prepared when I presented my speech. This speech shows me that I improved from when I started as it was easier to speak in front of the class and even a stranger. It made me feel like I accomplished something good. This speech is where I kind of went all out as I even dressed up.
In the beginning of the course, my goals were to be less nervous, to speak louder, and be more prepared and calm. I believe I have achieved most of these goals because compared to when I gave my first speech, which is the "This I Believe" speech, to the class, where I was very nervous, read my speech from my paper and didn't do a lot of eye contact, and I was stiff and didn't use any gestures or body movements; I was more prepared, kept eye contact with my audience and didn't read from a paper or note-cards, used hand gestures and moved around, and had a steady voice for my community issues speech. I was still nervous as that will never go away, but it wasn't as obvious and it was lower than before. I have improved a lot during this course. My goals after this class is to improve on the things I achieved from my previous goals and to work on the things I didn't achieve in this class. I plan on practicing a lot more before I present a speech, so I know what I am doing and to familiarize myself with the content of my speech. I also plan to practice a lot beforehand to become less nervous and be more prepared.
