Good Morning everyone! I am El John Bernardo. My research was originally entitled “the effect of music to college students’ academic performance. My purpose for this research is to discover more information that would help me or other readers with their study habits. To continue the research, I looked up literature that could be in some way related to this inquiry. Alongside the literature, I also decided to conduct surveys in order to get first hand data on college students. I distributed the survey electronically to about 40 students from October 2018 – March 2019, eventually gathering 12 respondents. According to my analysis on the DATA, while only three out of 12 RESPONDENTS fully use music while reading, studying, and doing homework, the majority of the respondents use music in at least 1 of the 3 school-related activities. The findings suggest that various kinds of music, not only a specific one, really are useful and are able to aid most of the students in their school activities. To conclude this presentation, there are quite a few changes or additions that should’ve been included in the whole research. More ways of gathering information should be used for this research to be better like interviews or PARTICIPANT OBSERVATIONS through actual experiments. The survey could’ve been improved if it was sent to more students leading to more respondents improving DATA QUALITY. Twelve seems to be too low a SAMPLE SIZE to serve as an actual accurate representation of the whole college body which would lack CREDIBILITY. There are still more to be discovered on the topic and hopefully other people who are interested in the idea of music relating to studies would come up with better results than what I discovered.

Reflection
In our EN202-01 class, we were tasked to choose a topic that we would utilize for the whole semester. The topic I choose was how music affects students’ academic performance. I think it is a good topic to work on as it aims to help students improve on their study habits. The research I did in class was lacking. It needed more information, may it be from literature or from first hand data. Moreover, I could’ve chosen another topic that I would see as more achievable, interesting and useful for more readers.
Despite the setbacks during the semester, having to do the required assignments for the class, I developed on being on task which is I think the greatest thing I learned in the class. One thing I could improve on is to plan out something as complex as a research project thoroughly so that I could accomplish it as efficient as possible. In conclusion, I think I am satisfied with the assignments I have done for the class.
