~ My self introduction ~
|
Reflection (beginning speech class):Throughout the filming of my introduction video I realized that it was hard to do a speech while recording yourself because you or at least I am aware that I am talking to myself and it can be awkward from time to time. I had to do some retakes and even then I think that my video wasn't perfect to settle with.
I noticed that I wasn't looking at the camera directly because I was either reading the script that I prepared on the screen or was thinking of how to make it sound better, and it was obvious that I was being awkward on camera. I think my pace in speaking was alright, but if I did a speech in front of my peers I would have spoken faster or might make a mistake. There were times that I was touching my face or attempted to brush my hair off my face -- which was a distraction, and I sounded bored or monotonous. Overall I think I could have done better if I was more confident and cheerful. |
Goals:
Upon the completion of this speech class I hope to improve in my public speaking skills. I hope to become more confident in speaking in public especially when it comes to voicing my opinions and I would work on expressing my emotions better for an effective communication of my speeches. My greatest goal is to inspire or move people as I give a speech.

My passion: Writing!
As Cassandra Clare said, One must be careful of books and what is inside them for words have the power to change us. I love words, and anything that ties to them be it colorful stationary, pens, fancy paper, structure, organization. People may feel powerful voicing their thoughts, I however feel that same power through writing.

Favorite speech!!!
|
My favorite speech was our community issues speech because it was one of the speeches that I think I did best. It was also my favorite because me and my partner Leeza was given great comments from our guest even if at first we were nervous. The video at the left is my 'lines' or the introduction part of our community issues speech "the effects of tuition increase towards low income students"

Reflection (End of course)Speech class was a great experience. Although I dreaded to go to class, the experience was worth it. I improved on my public speaking skills greatly, although i'm still shy and feel awkward or hesitant to go up to speak, I realized its not so bad after all. My voice grew louder and I became sort of passionate and somewhat confident whenever I speak, however I need to maintain such consistency because after starting off as confident in my speech I sometimes I loose that confidence towards the end especially when the crowd is staring at me. The most memorable teachings I got in this class was practice makes perfect, fake it till you make it, and expect that you will speak so that you can prepare and feel less nervous.

GoalsMy goals after this class and as I go through my life long journey...
- Keep that CONFIDENCE consistent! - Maintain, Maintain, MAINTAIN eye contact. - keep on believing myself. - engage more to the audience - use gestures or movement in presentation - learn to think quickly for impromptu speeches |
