REFLECTION
After watching my self-introduction video, I noticed more things that I feel like I need to improve on. First of all, I felt like I was very monotonous throughout my video and showed little to no expression. I didn't really have any gestures or movement at all and I just sort of sat through my video just talking, and maybe to others that can be a little boring. I also tend to look somewhere else besides the camera, so maybe maintaining eye contact and keeping my confidence while speaking is something that I feel like I need to improve on, too. Although, I am glad that I didn't say too many fillers like "uhm" or "uh" and I didn't really stutter a lot (which can kind of be a problem for me, sometimes). |

My Favorite Speech: THIS I BELIEVE
COURSE REFLECTION
A favorite speech of mine would definitely be the first speech we did as a class, the This I Believe speech. This speech gave me the chance to share why putting yourself first is not a bad thing. Doing whatever makes you happy is what is most important because if you are displeased with your current situation, everything and everyone around will be affected as well. I really enjoyed talking about why this subject is very important to me because I had struggled for so long with negativity and unhappiness, and it was such a relief when I started focusing on myself and shying away from drama because I had felt that a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders. For the first time in a long time, I was really contented with my life and this speech gave me the opportunity to share that.
In the beginning of the course, I wanted to work on my confidence, overcome my anxiety, improve my stuttering and nervous habits, and be more expressive. I would like to say that I had overcome almost all of my goals. I would like to say that I am more confident in speaking and I don't really feel anxious and nervous a lot - I have found that when actually practicing your speech will help you overcome the nervousness you feel because you would feel more prepared - and I believe that I don't really stutter a lot and my enunciation has improved. However, I do believe that I still need to work on being more expressive. I almost always have a monotone and pretty soft voice, but I believe with more practice that could be improved as well.
