Reflection + Personal Goal
- So as I was reviewing all the takes that I took to finally choose a final one, I realized that I was just not used to talking to a device. It was most certainly awkward introducing facts about me to a phone instead of an actual human being. Also, I noticed that I would avert my eyes from the camera and not focus at some points.
- My personal goal for this class is to slowly break down the wall of disliking speaking in front of a crowd. I tend to have anxiety and stutter a lot when I need to present in front of an audience, even if I am familiar with everyone in the room. I hope to gain more confidence in projecting my voice to the people :)
Reflection on Class + Favorite Speech
Course Overall
- The course overall has been a great experience! I enjoyed the activites that Dr. Anderson made us do. Everyone was very friendly and supportive of each other. Every class session was interesting and there was always something new that we learned about the world, about others, and also about otherselves. The course was overwhelming with all the speeches due and the one-minute impromptus in-between, but I have made it this far and I can say that I loved the course.
- At the beginning of the semester, I noticed that taking a speech class helped me with my other classes, for example my education classes. I believe that the amount of times I had to go up and speak made me a bit more comfortable. I noticed that during my This I Believe speech, my voice was shaky and my heart beat was going crazy... but with the conclusion of our Community Issues Speech and Gender Issues Impromptu, I saw a difference: I was more calm, my voice was not as shaky and I felt confident. However, I still procrastinated which cause me to doubt my self-esteem whenever I went up. Another thing I wanted to point is my health during the durarion of the course. My anxiety levels were through the roof! I missed some class sessions but I am still proud of myself for pulling through and finishing up the course.
- I still believe that I have A LOT to work on in regards to speaking in front of a crowd. I still feel queasy whenever I have the thought of having to do presentations or speeches. I do hope that I become a better speaker.
- My favorite speech has got to be my demonstration speech; the community issues speech coming in second. My demonstration speech was about doing an origami turkey. It was definitely fun to teach everyone how to make and I was fascinated with the different patterns on the origami papers, haha. Also, it was great to see everyone interacting with each other and learning how to make the orgiami turkey together. I enjoyed planning and demonstrating it, I hope you all had a good time learning it as well. :)
