End of course reflection:
Towards the end of the course, I was content with the material and information Dr. Anderson provided. We worked on so many areas on how to benefit our tone of voice, body language, and content of speech. From tongue twisters to debates on Clinton vs Trump, this class opened a different perspective on how I view public speaking.
I came into this class with little to no knowledge about public speaking. However, this course strengthened my impromptu skills, awareness of community issues in our island, etc. I hope that I can carry this knowledge for future speeches that I might need to present.

My Favorite Speech:
My favorite speech was my “This I Believe Speech”. At first, writing this speech was challenging since I had no idea what belief I could talk about. The website Dr. Anderson gave out for guidelines had countless topics and I just so happened to come across grief. My speech was dedicated to my grandfather who died last year. I spoke about his illness which was Alzheimer’s. How it couldn’t be treated, and how severe his stage was, but I also focused on how I believe that everyone gets through grief and loss.

Reflection
Although I am not one to talk in front of a crowd, I felt like I did alright for my introduction video. This was the first time I have ever taken a video of myself and talk about me. This task was actually a lot harder than I expected. I was nervous, my voice was a bit weak, and I kept losing eye contact with the camera, but I am looking forward on how to overcome this. My goals for this class is to be able to communicate clearly, work on my posture, and to expand my vocabulary during a speech. I feel like these are all a necessity in life because people present speeches in all types of events or occasions. I want know what I might have done wrong during my first video and how to work on them. |
