My Favorite Speech
|
My favorite speech would have to be my take on How to Make the World a Better Place. Initially, Dr. Bunts gave us the challenge to push ourselves for our next speech. We had the choice of either doing a monologue from our favorite movie, a group skit, or a formal speech. I had decided to go through the easy route by doing a formal speech on the importance of kindness. However, I had little preparation and on the day of my presentation, I choked up and flopped in front of my classmates. The video posted is my second attempt, which was graciously allowed by Dr. Bunts. I'm proud of this speech because I redeemed myself and learned a valuable lesson for future presentations.

End of the Semester Reflection
My goals for this semester are presented above. Looking back at these past few months, I'd like to think that this course challenged me on my public speaking abilities. I had previously thought of myself as a proficient speaker, rarely being susceptible to fidgeting while onstage or speaking in a monotone voice. But one of my main goals this semester was to not crack under pressure. The video above was my redemption speech after failing miserably the day before. Since that speech, I went on to confidently deliver my community issues speech, therefore accomplishing my second goal. I still have some kinks to work out on (the dreaded "uhm"), but I am certain I grew as a public speaker. And finally, with the knowledge from this course, I plan on enhancing my skills by transitioning to a communications major once I move to a university OR doing a direct focus on business communications.
