Fundamentals of Speech Communication-07
Tommie Sablan

Introduction Video Hello! My name is Tommie Sablan, and to the left is a video where I speak a little about myself. Thank you for visiting my weebly page, I hope you enjoy! |
EVALUATION:
I noticed both good and bad points within my introduction speech. Good points include my diction, confidence, hand gestures, and eye contact. Improvements I could make would be my volume; I noticed that I could be a bit louder. I also need to avoid saying "um". I also need to take a breath and speak more slowly.

My goals:
- to improve my overall speaking skills
- to be able to speak with confidence in front of a crowd
- to be able to speak to an audience and keep their interest
- to stutter less when speaking

Favorite Speech: A Bitter Eulogy (Monologue)
This was my favorite of all the speeches we have done! I have zero experience with acting, and taking this step out of my comfort zone and experimenting was really fun! Acting is truly difficult and I applaud all the actual actors out there. I know I could improve my acting by memorizing my lines by heart, and not being afraid to be dramatic and show "fake" emotion when reciting my lines. |

Community issues Speech: The Effects of Teen Pregnancy on High Schoolers
This was another favorite speech of mine, as I get to speak about something that I am interested in, and something I believe in: spreading awareness of teen pregnancy and its effects. |
Reflection
I had quite a bit of goals that I had hoped to achieve this semester. I cannot say that I have achieved al of them, but I can say that I know what my skill level is, and I know where I need to improve. I feel as though I did improve my overall speaking skills; I know much more about communicating and speaking than I did before. Due to the virus, I was not able to practice speaking in front of a crowd as much as I could have, but I do value the times where I did, such as during my demonstration speech. I get nervous, but I will eventually learn to control my nerves. This class has taught me how to keep an audience's interest when I am speaking to them: use props, visuals, humor, etc. Stuttering comes with the nervousness, and once I am able to calm my nerves, I will be able to control my stuttering. Overall, I really appreciate this class and the fact that it has allowed me to get to know parts of myself I didn't before. Communicating is and always will be a very important skill, and I value this class and all it has to teach me about it.
