Evaluation
I am Mark Sobremisana; you can call me Sob. I feel socially awkward talking in this video because I am very conscious about the way I speak. I don't talk a lot so I needed to amp myself up doing this video. Sorry if it seems a little awkward.
Reflection |
I need to work on the way I speak, lessen my mumbling and lessen the body movements. I also need to work on my grammar especially with my use of prepositions. I enjoyed this though, it felt like I stepped up a little out of my shell to do this video.
My Favorite Speech and Reflection
The favorite speech that I have done was the community issue speech. My topic was about violence against intimate partners and children, or domestic violence. I take this issue personally because someone close to my heart has suffered from domestic violence. Another reason why this is my favorite was because it made me do research, I learned a lot of new stuff and information. Also, having guests from the island's organizations made me step out of my comfort zone. Primarily, when the speech was announced, I felt very nervous because I felt like I am not responsible enough to handle research, and I am not capable enough to speak to third party guests. However, I pushed myself to be able to do some research, build my essay, and finish my final draft. After submitting my final draft, I felt nervous again when it was the time for dress rehearsals. Doing the dress rehearsals helped me improve my essay and my speech itself. A week before the speech, instead of feeling nervous, I got excited. Speech day, when I saw the guests enter the room, I felt all fired up. I felt like a speaker's high during my speech. I found a new person inside of me that day. A confident person. These are the reasons why my favorite speech was the community issues speech.
What goals did I achieve, and how can I continue working on them?
Before the semester started, I challenged myself to be more vocal, and thankfully, I achieved that goal. I have also managed to become more confident when facing an audience. I work as a tutor, so this course helped me with my confidence. My diction and pronounciation has improved a lot. I also feel more confident talking to other people, or in other words, helped me with engaging through conversations. I can continue improving my speech while I am working. My job as a tutor requires a lot of audience interaction, so experiencing it always will help me improve.
