Self-Introduction
|
ReflectionI had a hard time trying to deliver my speech as I tried to introduce myself because it was the first time trying to talk about myself in a speech. It was pretty awkward to talk in front of the camera since I am used to talking to a person, not a camera. In addition, I don't talk very often about myself so this has taken a lot of tries to do this. As I watched myself talk, I noticed I sounded awkward and I seemed to pause a bit long at times. In the end of the video, I ended it pretty weird.
Goal: My goals is to able to express and deliver my speech very well. I want to speak fluently, not have a long pause as if I am trying to figure out what to say next and sound more confident when I talk. I want to really want to end my speech smoothly and confidently, not weirdly. |
Favorite Speech: This I Believe
A speech that is my favorite and my own is the "This I Believe Speech" because I was able to think through what my beliefs are and there was a lot but there was one that made it easy for me to explain much clearly than the other beliefs I have which was that every person is still human with feelings and struggles of their even if they have their own differences.
"As a child, I grew up seeing many different faces, body, skin, and race, including different ideas, thoughts, and minds. There are so many different things about every human being. However, there are also so many common things about every person. At a young age, I was blind to these terms such as ethnicity, beliefs, and nationality because as I mentioned, I grew up with a diverse environment and the way I was raised. As I gotten older, I became aware of cultures, religion, and etc. I noticed how most people are rude to those who has a certain kind of race, religion, and culture. At that moment, it hit me that I didn’t understand why they were like that. This eventually led me to believe that every person no matter how they look, what they are, and what they believe in, they are still human who have feelings and struggles of their own.
I experienced what it was like for someone to be racist, including my mom and brother. I can’t remember it very well but all I knew was that a few people would say insults about my mom, brother, and I. They treated my family and l as if we committed a crime because of our ethnicity. My father knew all about it however those insults weren’t directed at him because they are the same nationality. It was bad, however my family were able to manage and moved away. Despite that, I knew that those people grew up differently than I did, so it would be hard to understand people’s reasoning to hate each other because of their ethnicity, culture, and religion.
In the past, I watched a few movies and shows that dealt with life lessons and what your actions do to other people. There was a very few about slavery such as Django which showed a few sides of how bad slavery was and it is still hard for me to understand why they would do such things to people who are human with different appearance and culture. Most of the shows and movies I watched gave me life lessons which wasn’t the main lesson but by observing, I learned that people deal with different problems and with other’s conflicts. For example, there was a show about a boy who had no powers but he dreamed to be a hero like his idol and the people around him would put him down. He believed what they said however he continued to pursue his dream which turned out well since eventually he had a lot of people support him.
I may have experienced discrimination and raised from a diverse world but it helped me form my belief that every human is still human no matter what the differences is. I don’t have any negative emotions towards those who are racist. Every person has been raised differently because the environment they have to adapt to and what they learn from other people. It is part of our nature to learn, adapt, and absorb what is given to us like plants. People need to realize that those around them are human like them. Every individual thinks, have problems, adapt, grow, feel, have a belief, and etc. The only difference is our beliefs, what we think, how we tackle a problem, and many more to list. In the future, I hope most human beings will get along better, even with their differences."
